Maidu Interpretive Center & Historic Site  in Roseville. The nature area offers a trail that takes you past ancient petroglyphs (rock art) and hundreds of bedrock mortars (acorn grinding holes), evidence of Nisenan Indians (southern Maidu) occupation of the site for thousands of years.

Empire Mine State Historical Park  north of Roseville in Grass Valley. Site of one of the oldest, largest, deepest, longest and richest gold mines in California.
