RRR ANNUAL GEM AND MINERAL SHOW
The
annual Roseville Rock Rollers Gem and Mineral Show went very well. A
big thank you again to Betty Soper-Arnold and Elton Dean for once
again putting together a very good show.
One
of the highlights that made this year’s show a big success were the
varied Distributors, who brought many new items to our show. The
selection of Demonstrators, who demonstrated to the public some of
their talents, such as flint knapping, bead/jewelry making and fossil
cleaning and preparation, was outstanding. One of our club members,
Jim Hutchings, had a one of a kind, wonderful display of gems and
minerals, on three large display boards, along with material in the
raw, set up at the front entrance – very interesting to everyone who
stopped by and saw it and talked to Jim.
Our
wonderful case displays, which are one of the largest collections
shown in this area’s shows, were outstanding. One of our club’s
old timers, Wilbur Scott, stated that this might be the last year that
he and Ethel may be able to show their wonderful display of Spheres.
Age and time have caught up with them. Many thanks to you both.
Another old timer, Myron Zents, put in as usual a one of a kind case
of artifacts.
The
kitchen staff put out a wonderful Friday evening meal for us all. The
Saturday and Sunday refreshments were a delight to all who partook of
the goodies. I sampled some of the ample wares both days. The servings
were large, good and economical. Thanks go out to Kymberly and Rolf,
who jumped in and took over the big job of Kitchen supervisors just a
few days prior to our show. Karla and Rob gave them much needed advice
and help to put the kitchen function all together, as well as many
others, who spent many hours both days in the kitchen, helping out.
I
could go on and on about how well the show went from Set-up early
Friday morning till teardown finished at near 9:00 Sunday evening. I
have named a few of the key players; however there were more who put
it all together and made this show a Gem of a Show. By not naming
individuals, I won’t offend the person or persons who I forgot to
mention, as I have a habit of doing. However I would like to point out
four people by name. Two juniors, Sarah and Ben Phillips, worked
exceptionally hard from Friday thru Sunday evening, wow, did they help
out! Also special mention to Jack and Kathy Messersmith, who will be
leaving this area and moving to Arizona. Their help will be sorely
missed, especially at our show time.
In
closing we all want to say thanks to everyone who helped in whatever
way, large or small, in this year’s show. You all made it a
wonderful one.
THANKS,
Robert E. Oleachea, Show Set-up and Teardown Chairperson.
